32-bassinet, acute-care community teaching hospital with campuses
in New Britain and Southington. The hospital was created with the
2006 merger of the former New Britain General and Bradley Memorial
hospitals. Affiliated with the University of Connecticut School of
Medicine, The Hospital of Central Connecticut provides
comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in general medicine
and surgery and a wide variety of specialties.Position Summary:The
Director of Nursing will provide strategic leadership within the
Emergency Department in collaboration with the provider leadership
team. In this role, the Director of Nursing will be outcomes
driven, designing creative solutions and building bridges among the
organization's stakeholders to advance key initiatives and promote
innovation. As a champion of the Hartford Healthcare culture, the
Director provides thought leadership in a range of critical areas
including patient safety, patient experience, care logistics,
employee engagement and EMS strategy.Key Accountabilities:
- Provides financial management expertise for strategic planning,
budgeting, analysis and decision-making. Working collaboratively
with other members of the administrative team to achieve the
organizational goals, acts as a liaison with other hospital
departments to meet the financial management information needs of
the hospital
- Prepares and/or examines various financial and non-financial
reports and analyzes the impact of actual and/or proposed
operational changes in meeting corporate and divisional
initiatives. Coordinates the preparation and monitoring of the area
budget and oversees the monthly report of financial performance as
well as other regulatory and benchmarking reports
- Assists the Vice President, Patient Care Services to position
the service to maximize financial resources in order to achieve
goals and objectives. Oversees and provides direction for the
implementation and use of management reporting systems
- Participates with the medical staff and other hospital
departments in aligning unit operations to ensure quality, safe and
timely patient care
- Provides leadership to the unit directors and managers in
identifying resources required to achieve quality and safe patient
care results
- Develops and monitors operating budget for units and related
services and assures appropriate resource allocations
- Assures that the unit staff has appropriate continuing
education and quality improvement programs to meet clinical changes
and challenges
- Develops, implements and evaluates programs to promote
recruitment, retention, development and continuing education of
patient care staff
- Collaborates with the administration, peers, colleagues and
attending physicians with regard to the patient care model with a
focus on aligning nursing practice to ensure consistency and
continuity across the organization
- Collaborates with other departments to accomplish department
and hospital-wide and system objectivesQualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related field and Master's Degree is
required. One degree must be in nursing
- Five plus years of progressive nursing leadership at a Director
or Manager level
- Three plus years of clinical experience in Emergency
Services
- Demonstrated track record as an effective administrator who has
created change, ideally in an Emergency Department in an acute care
academic setting
- Previous experience working with LEAN principles to engineer
positive outcomes
- Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered
Nurse in the State of Connecticut
- The ability to work with diverse groups of physicians
(voluntary/full-time, teaching/nonteaching) and appreciate their
contributions to the strategic direction of an organization
- Intellectually facile, will have the ability to be conceptually
creative, grasp large amounts of information quickly, and
articulate conclusions in a clear manner
- Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication
skills who relates well with all levels of the organization
- A creative, forward thinking leader with the proven ability to
engage, coach and mentor direct reports, colleagues and other key
stakeholders
- A demonstrated track record designing strategies and delivering
solutions in areas including, but not limited to, patient
experience, patient safety, employee engagement and workflow
redesign
- Highly effective analytical, organizational and problem-solving
