RESPONSIBILITIES: Post-Doctoral Psychology Residents are hired for a one year (12 months), full-time position. Over the course of the year, Post-Doctoral Psychology Residents will obtain experience providing clinical psychological services, will receive supervision by a licensed psychologist, and will be offered training opportunities. Successful completion of the post-doctoral experience would meet current criteria for licensure in Connecticut. Ongoing employment beyond the initial 1 year position may be considered, pending open positions within the agency. When eligible, all unlicensed clinical staff are expected to obtain licensure in order to be considered for ongoing employment at The Village. Completes multidisciplinary evaluations for children ages 0-17 entering foster care which may include: Proficiency in completing developmental and psychological assessments in a trauma informed manner. Collaboration with DCF, biological/ adoptive parents, and/or foster parents to gather collaborative information. Coordination and collaboration with MDE clinic pediatrician(s) and dental hygienist(s) to identify child-specific strengths and needs. Synthesize medical, dental, and mental health/ developmental findings in a report and a summary and recommendations document. Participate in follow-up meetings with DCF staff to clearly communicate assessment results and assist in creating a holistic treatment plan for the child. Provision of assessment and developmental service in the office, home, school, or other identified setting to meet the unique needs of families served. Assists in completing administrative duties, such as scheduling and data collection, as needed. Accurate and timely completion of reports, and any other documentation and reports required by agency and program policies and funding sources. Knowledge of available services for developmental and psychological services within the community and the ability to collaborate with others to promote a family service plan approach. Knowledge and implementation of agency policies and procedures. Partners with Supervisor to identify and develop plans for professional growth. Contributes to program functioning by assuming responsibility for special tasks or leadership in special projects as appropriate. Contributes to agency organizational life by participating in agency wide task forces, committees or problem solving teams as appropriate. Contributes to agency visibility and development of community linkages by representing the Village in community groups or committees, as assigned. Participates in psychology department meetings and activities, including developing and providing trainings within the agency and/or community, as requested, and providing supervised supervision for predoctoral interns, as assigned. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. Experience and Skills: QUALIFICATIONS: Educational Requirements: Ph.D. or Psy. D. from clinical psychology APA approved program. Licensure Requirements: Post-doctoral psychology residents are expected to be working towards obtaining CT Psychologist Licensure over the 12 months of their tenure in this position. May be required to maintain valid drivers license and ability to drive or otherwise obtain transportation to provide services throughout the service area. Experience Level: Must have significant clinical experience with populations served by the Village, and specialization desirable. Specific Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements: Diagnostic expertise including mental status examinations, DSM diagnoses, and risk assessments. Clinical intervention skills, with experience in empirically validated interventions and crisis management. Extensive experience working with culturally diverse urban populations, a wide age range, and a variety of clinical presentations. Formal training in the use of developmental assessment measures, their interpretation, and report writing preferred. Prior experience in conducting assessments and treatment with young children and families, as well as knowledge of early childhood development, including developmental milestones, attachment theory, and age-appropriate interventions for toddlers and preschoolers preferred. Knowledge of mental health, child welfare systems, and community resources. Strong computer and typing skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Good organizational and communication skills. Personal Characteristics: Ability to demonstrate flexibility in approach to job and others; and able to multi-task; committed to results based accountability. Ability to function autonomously in day to day responsibilities; yet, seek consultation appropriately when needed. Cultural Competency: Sensitivity to the impact of race, gender, sexuality, culture, language and spirituality on mental health treatment and youth required; Familiarity, sensitivity, and/or experience working with diverse and urban populations; Spanish speaking skills required. Physical Abilities: Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations. These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the abilities to function safely in a therapeutic situation including provision of services in clients homes or host settings.
