Job Description Schedule: 37.5 hours/Monday-Friday Position
Summary: The Department Head of Technical Services is responsible
for the total management and operation of all aspects of the
department and its integration into the overall operations of the
library. Qualifications: MLS from ALA-accredited school of
library/information science; excellent oral and written
communications skills, five years progressively more responsible
relevant experience, including at least two years of supervising
staff. Comprehensive knowledge of technical services operations and
national standards. Thorough understanding of and up-to-date
experience with USMARC formats, OCLC, Dewey, LCSH, and a
comprehensive, integrated automated library system such as SIRSI,
DRA, Innovative Interfaces, etc. Proficiency in Microsoft
applications a must. Must have the ability to make independent
judgments, and to counsel and mentor others. Proficiency in Polish
or Spanish desirable. Responsibilities: Supervises departmental
staff and manages all aspects of acquisitions, cataloging and
processing of materials. Develops, documents, and implements long
and short-term goals for the department. Responsible for dept.
collection development and maintenance. Prepares reports and
statistical analyses, makes presentations to the Director, Board,
and others as required. Serves on the Director's Management Team to
plan and coordinate library wide projects and programs, share
information, and participate in strategic planning. Represents the
Library in New Britain and to the professional community.
