+ As a Setter Operator - Press/Heat Treat, the primary function is to set up and operate a group of automatic presses, electric furnaces, and auxiliary equipment for the manufacture of blades.


+ Set up presses to perform a variety of piercing, lancing, scoring, and stamping.

+ Set up includes gear changes, dies, fixtures, feed wheels and guides.

+ Make adjustments and set controls to meet specific requirements for each product.

+ Prepare heat treat furnaces and follow standard procedures for start up.

+ Set controls to predetermined temperatures, speed, gas, and coolant necessary for the proper hardening, quenching, and winding of steel strip.

+ Change quench dies, guides, and adjust for thickness of gauge as necessary.

+ Use hoists to load and unload coils.

+ Feed strips through rollers, guides, furnaces, or press.

+ Start end of strip on coil winders.

+ Remove completed coils to designated racks strapping the heat treated coils.

+ Maintain a continuous run of material through heat treat by butt welding ends and grinding excess material prior to furnaces.

+ Produce consistent size coils by using count control at presses and continuing that size through heat treat.

+ Inspect product for the various quality attributes as required including: blade length, score, stamp, notches, color, hardness, brittleness, and chamber.

+ Make necessary adjustments as required to ensure quality.

+ Maintain all required documentation.

+ Recognize equipment malfunctions and make corrections to maintain operations.

+ Clean, lubricate, and inspect equipment.

+ Perform the handling requirements of the job and keep a clean and orderly work area

+ Follow all Standard Operating Procedures

+ Compliance to all Plant Environmental, Health and Safety policies and Environmental and OSHA regulatory requirements


+ High School Diploma or equivalent

+ Basic mechanical ability, machine set-up/operation experience preferred

+ Ability to perform basic math - add, subtract, multiply whole numbers, fractions and decimals

+ Basic ability to read, write and communicate in English

+ Desire to learn new skills and improve technical knowledge

+ Strong orientation toward quality, safety and continuous improvement demonstrated by a work history:

+ Of safe performance,

+ Of accuracy and attention to detail in the work performed, and

+ Of constructive problem solving and suggestions for improvement

+ Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change

+ Understanding and support of Company policies and procedures


+ Must be able to continuously perform grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and walking

+ Must be able to handle continuous standing 8-10 hours daily

+ Must be able to perform frequent lifting up to 30 lbs independently and up to 60 lbs with assistance.

+ Must be able to work in an environment with various changing temperatures for portions of the year.

+ Must be able to work daily and weekly overtime as required.
