BACKGROUND: MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service
agency that has been serving children and families in need since
founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in
1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and
physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and
across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing
interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family
foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling
children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice
systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied
migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000
children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles,
re-imagine their futures, and develop their full potential. PROGRAM
BACKGROUND: Family Support Programs provide family focused
assistance utilizing a Solution Based Casework model which focuses
on goals to stabilize and support families. Promoting skill
acquisition and behavior change which aligns to the promotion of
child well-being outcomes. SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Case Aide
should embrace diversity and have an open mind when working with
the families we serve. This employee will have to document all
contacts in appropriate computer systems within established time
limits. Respond to Client requests for information. Must respond to
emergencies as needed or directed. Meet each child and assess needs
individually to determine if child is meeting assessment
requirements. Must be able to communicate well with Parents and
everyone involved in the family’s life: medical, schools, lawyers
and more. Conduct thorough safety hazard inspections of the home.
Promote a team-spirit engaging in an important level of
collaboration between the Case Aide, Caseworker and Family Team
Coordinator. Be flexible with time and appointment arrangements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma and related work in
social work field. Minimum six (6) months of office and/or casework
experience. Must maintain a valid Driver’s License with a
satisfactory driving record. Excellent organizational and
communication skills including the ability to de-escalate
conflicting communication. Type a minimum of thirty-five (35) words
per minute (wpm). Proficiency in Microsoft Office software Ability
to file and track case information through paper and data entry.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct home visits with birth parents, foster
parents, and/or resource persons in accordance with mandates.
Document all contacts in appropriate computer systems within
established time limits. Monitor and document each home visit,
family/sibling visits. Respond to emergencies as needed and/or
directed. Answer and direct phone calls appropriately. Respond to
Client requests for information. Maintain timely data entry into
multiple computer systems. Maintain tracking systems of reports
coming due and completed. Maintain and manage mail
distribution/processing. Conduct general typing and filing. Be able
to maintain and manage a vast amount of paperwork. Be able to
communicate with lawyers, doctors, school personnel and anyone
involved with the family. Maintain appropriate boundaries. Follow
all MercyFirst’ s established policies and procedures.

Range: $43,779-$47,779 Hiring Incentive-$1,000 after 500 worked
